Eating Out

Eating Out: Red Robin

red-robin-new-logo

I am kicking off the Eating Out series with Red Robin.  One reason we really like Red Robin is because they have a customizable nutrition menu.  Some of our favorite sodium-friendly options are:

Keep It Simple Burger, as low as 90 mg.  Order this wrapped in lettuce (the bun, which is toasted with margarine, adds 532 mg). Ask for no pickles, mayo, or Red Robin Seasoning (salty!).  Make it a double burger for 172 mg.

Red Robin Gourmet Cheeseburger, as low as 146 mg.  Order this burger wrapped in lettuce with swiss and without a bun, ketchup, pickles or mayo. If you make it a double cheeseburger with two slices of swiss cheese and avocado, it comes in at 292 mg.

Simply Grilled Chicken Burger, as low as 281 mg.  Order this chicken sandwich lettuce wrapped without cheese, pickles, or a bun.  Ask for it unsalted and it will come in at 281 mg; add avocado for 285 mg.

House Salad, as low as 21 mg.  If you order the house salad with vinegar and oil, no croutons, and no cheese, and the salad is 21 mg.  Keep the croutons and it comes in at 66 mg.  Keep the croutons and cheese and it is 157 mg.

Steak Fries, as low as 224 mg.  Be sure to order these without salt!  They are really delicious, so if you have the room in your diet, add them as a side to a burger.

Red Robin has turned out to be a really great place for low sodium eats and their customizable nutrition menu takes the guesswork out of ordering.  We love it because it makes it easy to meet up with friends and family and everyone can enjoy what they (including those on a reduced sodium diet).

Thank you so much for all of the recipes. I just found out I have high blood pressure and thought my favorite activity, “eating great food”, had come to an end. With these recipes and advice for eating out, there’s hope again, lol. Thank you.

    Dear Kathy,

I just found your blog tonight and it is wonderful. My husband has been put on a restricted salt diet and your recipes are going to help us so much. And the added benefit of what to have when you eat out is a huge plus too. You are being such a huge help to us.

Thanks so much! My fiancée works at RR so I can get free food, but pretty much everything on the menu is full of sodium. A lettuce wrapped cheeseburger with avocado seems like a winner!

Oh, hi there!

I love tinkering in the kitchen. I am incapable of seeing a recipe and making it as-is. This tendency to tweak recipes has come in handy in adapting our family favorites to be low sodium-friendly. Read More…
